Over Half of All Implant Cases Require Bone Grafting. What You Need to Know.

Presented by:

An increasing demand for implants and an expanding availability of advanced technologies and materials to place implants has resulted in a growing number of oral surgeons and general practitioners who place implants or are considering adding implantology to their practice. About 5 million implants are placed each year and just over half of all implant cases require a bone graft to treat defects. Among bone grafted sites, sinus lifting with lateral approach (22.1 %) and guided bone regeneration (22.7 %) are performed most frequently. Join Dr. Ben Johnson, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, for a primer on the latest technologies, materials, and workflows for implant and bone graft treatment options.

Dr. Johnson will also discuss the following, while walking through several challenging implant/bone graft clinical cases:

  • Identifying the right candidates for implants
  • Leveraging 3D imaging for case planning, patient acceptance, and treatment planning
  • Determining bone graft procedures for the most common types of implant cases

Dr. Ben Johnson is an oral & maxillofacial surgeon with Pacific Northwest OMFS where he focuses on anesthesia, wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, corrective jaw surgery, and the treatment of facial trauma. Dr. Johnson attended college at Utah Valley University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he continued on to Temple University in Philadelphia to obtain his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD).
